Trip Discussions : Huka Falls

    Author: Tuck!
Subject: Huka Falls
Posted: 03 Feb 2008 at 7:44pm

Huka falls.. on the road between Tauranga and Taupo, NZ; is listed as 'dare deavelish'.. its not though.. its quit clean to be honest.. first you get dressed in front of a bunch of laymen photographers/Asians/Arabic people.. which is awkward at least.. then hike with your boat up about 150yd to the put in.. Kyle and i were nervous as heck in that we had gone to one of our mates kayak store (Donald Calder, 1999 i think world slolom, and metaled in the olympics if i'm not mistaken.. his call log is insane including legends of mine Coren Adison, Steve Fisher, Mike Abbot and Allen Ellerd) anywho.. we 'demo' two of his boats.. a Eskimo Salto and a Fluid Solo XL.. wich is funny to mention b/c Kyle and i went though about 10 boats in 6mo's and those were our first creek boats over there.. weird.. anywho.. we were dancy as Shikira at the put in in these boats due to outfitting. But, we put on our game faces and gaver anywho.. the first is a small mini drop into an eddi.. bout 5 ft.. then cross over a wier left.. which Kicker got caut in in the solo.. so i passed him and followed through to 'Pencil Sharpener' a sucky rapid.. a crud load of water through not very big space.. the line pencils down to 3ft or less with one gi.gantic eddie on left.. and a crashing wall on rt.. being scared of the crashing wall i bared just left.. wich put me in the eddie.. kyle passed me and as i'm twirling around in this damn eddie i look over my shoulder as him drop of this fall.. 33 footer with a good bit of force followin you.. after he dropped i magically pop out of the eddie and into the current.. just to include that since the eddie i havn't breathed do to fear of the unknown.. so then i drop.. now i'm releived b/c i know the unknown.. then i realize i dont have enough time to inhale before i hit and i've heard if you go in the whole at the bottom of the water fall you come out 150 meters down stream.. thats a long way.. i landed.. my face didnt even get wet.. i was goin so fast it was like ridin a sea-do.. i looked at kyle and ill never forget it.. all we said was wow.. that was fast.. and didnt speak again till we were in our dry clothes and in the car.. .. truly the most exhilerated and breathless i've been in my life..

cheers

Tyler pitoned a bit on it.. but.. kinda not that cool to hear in-accurate stories.. sorry to talk like that to you.. i'm a bit sided on matters pertaining to him.. but it is true. still a good video..
